Definition of CSS |
(1) Short for Cascading Style Sheets, a new feature
being added to HTML that gives both Web site developers and users more
control over how pages are displayed. With CSS, designers and users can
create style sheets that define how different elements, such as headers
and links, appear. These style sheets can then be applied to any Web
page.
The term cascading derives from the fact that multiple style sheets can
be applied to the same Web page. CSS was developed by the W3C.

Cascading style sheets CSS1, level 1 |
This document specifies level 1 of the Cascading Style Sheet mechanism (CSS1).
CSS1 is a simple style sheet mechanism that allows authors and readers to attach
style (e.g. fonts, colors and spacing) to HTML documents. The CSS1 language is
human readable and writable, and expresses style in common desktop publishing
terminology. One of the fundamental features of CSS is that style sheets
cascade; authors can attach a preferred style sheet, while the reader may have a
personal style sheet to adjust for human or technological handicaps. The rules
for resolving conflicts between different style sheets are defined in this
specification.

Cascading style sheets CSS1, level 2
|
This specification defines Cascading Style Sheets, level 2 (CSS2). CSS2 is a
style sheet language that allows authors and users to attach style (e.g., fonts,
spacing, and aural cues) to structured documents (e.g., HTML documents and XML
applications). By separating the presentation style of documents from the
content of documents, CSS2 simplifies Web authoring and site maintenance.

CSS Htmldog
|
"CSS, or Cascading Styles Sheets, is a way to style HTML. Whereas the HTML is
the content, the style sheet is the presentation of that document. Styles don't
smell or taste anything like HTML, they have a format of 'property: value' and
most properties can be applied to most HTML tags."
